THE SPIC MACAY UNIT
Kirori Mal College has a dedicated group of students, who along with Dr. Md. Mohsin as Convener constitute the Spic Macay Committee at college. The committee is deeply interested in learning and disseminating Indian classical dance and music among students and teachers of the college. The college too supports the committee in every way possible. It was with this in mind that a classical music concert in collaboration with Spic Macay had been organised to be held at college on 18 March 2020. Unfortunately, it had to cancelled due to COVID-19 crisis.
On 31st October 2020, Spic Macay – Chapter of Kirori Mal organized the Spic Macay Rendezvous Series Programme in an online mode on Zoom Platform, in which we hosted the Annual Dr. Aruna Sitesh Memorial Concert. The concert, which featured a Hindustani Classical Vocal Music recital by Vidushi Shruti Sadolikar Katkar, was also supported by Dr. Sitesh Alok. The main artiste of this evening, renowned Hindustani Classical Vocal Music artiste, Vidushi Shruti Sadolikar Katkar is a noted exponent of the Jaipur Atrauli Gharana of Hindustani Classical MusicShruti Ji has received several awards for her excellence in Hindustani Classical Music like the Shanmukha Sangeetha Shiromani Award, the Sangeet Natak Akademi Award, the “Icons of Maharashtra” award, the Swarayogini Prabha Atre award, the Bade Ghulam Ali Khan Rangbharati Samman, the ICN International award for the highest contribution to education, the “Gurugandharv” Gururao Deshpande National award and many more. Shruti Ji was accompanied on the Harmonium by Shri Hrishikesh Gangurde, on the Tabla by Pandit Ravinath Mishra, and on the Tanpura by Garima Srivastava. The concert was enjoyed by one and all. It was a memorable, mesmerizing, and enjoyable concert and the audience was thrilled to listen to her melodious singing.
